Sebree, KY

Sebree is a Webster County city that began with a railroad and still wears that origin on Main Street. The town was founded in 1868, when the railroad reached this part of western Kentucky; its post office was first called McBridge and then renamed for Col. E.G. Sebree, who helped bring the line through. Main Street became the commercial spine, lined with stores, hotels, churches, and service buildings as Sebree grew into a trade center for northeastern Webster County.

Today, Sebree’s scale is still local and practical. City Hall handles utilities, zoning, and municipal business; the downtown and highway corridors hold restaurants, retail, fuel stops, medical services, and a bank. The McMullin-Warren House gives Main Street a preserved turn-of-the-century landmark, while the Sebree Colored School keeps the city’s segregated-school history visible as part of its civic story. Sebree Elementary and the Webster County school system tie the city to nearby families. It is the kind of western Kentucky place where railroad history, everyday services, and a recognizable Main Street still overlap.
