About Selawik
Selawik is a city in the Northwest Arctic Borough, Alaska, situated at the mouth of the Selawik River where it empties into Selawik Lake. Named after the Iñupiaq word siiḷivik, meaning place of sheefish, the community of eight hundred residents has expanded across the river. It is served by the Davis-Ramoth Memorial School within the Northwest Arctic Borough School District. Selawik maintains a traditional subsistence lifestyle focused on hunting and fishing.
