Selby, SD

Selby got its start around the turn of the twentieth century with quite a moving story. When the railroad bypassed the nearby town of Bangor, local families and businesses simply hitched their buildings to horse teams and hauled them across the prairie to the new tracks, including one general store that took dozens of horses to pull. By 1903, Selby had officially become the Walworth County seat, settling in as a steady agricultural hub with local schools, shops, and a welcoming community.

Today, Selby keeps that grounded, small-town feel as the active center of Walworth County. Daily life moves at an easy pace, centered around quiet residential streets, the local school district, and a friendly courthouse square.
