Selma, OR

Selma is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Josephine County's Illinois Valley. Deer Creek runs west toward the Illinois River, and U.S. 199 passes through the center, linking Selma south to Cave Junction and northeast to Grants Pass. The landscape is a watershed map before it is a municipal one: forests, creek bottom, highway, and the larger Rogue River system frame the community. Selma's formal identity is small, but its valley position puts it inside a broad southwest Oregon recreation and working landscape.

The Illinois Valley Community Development Organization serves Selma alongside Cave Junction, Kerby, O'Brien, and Takilma, while the Selma Community and Education Center hosts the valley's Farmers' Friday Market. Nearby Lake Selmac, a 160-acre county-managed lake, adds boating, fishing, and camping to the local orbit. Current stream-restoration work on Deer Creek also shows how closely the community's future is tied to the watershed. Selma feels like a highway-and-creek place, with the Illinois Valley's services and outdoor life filling in around its unincorporated center.
