Seth Ward, TX

Seth Ward is an unincorporated Hale County community on the northeast side of Plainview, just south of I-27. Farm roads 1767 and 400 meet in the area, and the plains around town are part of the same irrigated agricultural country that made Plainview a regional center. The place took its name from Seth Ward College, a Methodist school created in 1910 from Central Plains College and Conservatory of Music. Two fires, in 1914 and 1916, damaged and then destroyed the college buildings; the school closed, but its name stayed on the map.

Today Seth Ward functions largely within Plainview’s orbit. Plainview Independent School District serves local students, and nearby Plainview supplies shopping, jobs, medical care, civic offices, and the larger school-and-college network. I-27 gives the community a fast connection toward Lubbock and Amarillo, while farm roads lead into fields and scattered residences. The old college story adds an unexpected layer to a place now known through neighborhood streets and agricultural edges. Seth Ward is a small plains community whose name keeps a short-lived campus present in the geography.
