Seven Mile Ford, VA

Seven Mile Ford is a Smyth County census-designated place along the Middle Fork of the Holston River, with 664 residents in the 2020 census. The community lies in the broad river valley between Chilhowie and Marion, where the watercourse, pasture, and road corridors define the settlement. Its name comes from the old ford located seven miles from Royal Oak Fort in Marion. That origin makes the place easy to picture: a crossing point that became a named community on the route through southwest Virginia.

Aspenvale Cemetery sits on a hillside above Seven Mile Ford and preserves the graves of General William Campbell and the Campbell-Preston family.
