About Severance

Severance is a Doniphan County city on the Wolf River, founded beside the St. Joseph and Denver City Railroad. A depot built in 1874 handled grain and brought goods to the town, linking farms and merchants to the St. Joseph market. Doniphan County later added a branch from near Severance toward Highland in 1908. The city's map remains legible as a river settlement shaped by the transportation network that organized its early commerce.
