Sextonville, WI

Sextonville is an unincorporated census-designated place in the Town of Buena Vista, southeast of Richland Center along U.S. Route 14. The post office uses ZIP code 53584, and the highway gives the small community its regional connection through the rolling farm country of Richland County. Sextonville is less a separate municipal center than a named crossroads and settlement within the town around it, with Richland Center handling the larger shopping, government, and service connections.

E. M. Sexton arrived in 1848 and platted the village in 1851. A post office had opened by 1849, and a hotel and sawmill followed as the settlement took shape. A 1921 photograph of the commercial center shows a two-story brick general store, Alert Hall, sidewalks, and the compact storefront pattern that once gave Sextonville a busier daily role. Those buildings point to the older farm-town economy: a place where mail, supplies, lodging, and milling met along the road. U.S. 14 still supplies the movement, while the surrounding farms preserve the setting that made Sexton choose this spot.
