Seymour, TX

Seymour began as Oregon City at the Western Trail's Brazos River crossing. When the post office opened in 1879, the name changed to honor local cowboy Seymour Munday, and the town soon picked up a store, newspaper, stone hotel, and courthouse. The railroad became the next turning point: citizens raised $50,000 to bring the Wichita Valley line through in 1890, and nearby Round Timbers emptied toward the new rail town. Today Seymour remains Baylor County's seat at the meeting of several highways. The local scoop is a trail crossing that turned into a courthouse town, then bet on the railroad.
