Shackle Island is a census-designated place and unincorporated community in Sumner County, Tennessee, situated near the Cumberland River approximately four miles north of Hendersonville. The earliest recorded reference to the name Shackle Island dates to June 8, 1797, when surveyor William Lytle described a North Carolina land grant noting an island at the location.
