Shannon, IL

Shannon is a village in Carroll County, Illinois, with a 2020 population of 801. The village grew from a place first called Lost Springs, where open prairie, spring-fed groves, timber, and water drew settlers after the Black Hawk War. Today the surrounding farm roads connect Shannon with the wider northwest Illinois countryside, while three churches—Shannon Baptist, St. Wendelin’s Catholic, and Bethel United Methodist—keep the village’s center recognizable.

William Shannon donated land for a two-story brick schoolhouse, which served elementary and high school students and expanded as the community grew.
