About Sheffield

Sheffield is a census-designated place in Pecos County, Texas, counted at 174 residents and 131 housing units in the 2020 Census. The community grew near a ford in the Pecos River and Pecos Spring, a crossing used by the San Antonio-El Paso route after an 1849 Army survey. Around 1900, a settlement formed beside Will Sheffield's ranch; a post office and grocery store followed. By 1906, Sheffield had stores, a blacksmith shop, a hotel, and other services for area ranchers.
