Shellman, GA

Home to fewer than 900 residents, Shellman is a quiet southwest Georgia town shaped by its 19th-century railroad roots. It got its start in the 1880s as a bustling rail depot, first called Ward before being renamed for railroad manager Major R. F. Shellman. From the beginning, the community grew outward from the tracks, with family homes, neighborhood churches, and brick storefronts all clustering close to the station.
