Shenandoah Heights, PA

Shenandoah Heights is a census-designated place in West Mahanoy Township, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, with 1,222 residents in the 2020 census. It sits in the anthracite coal region just north of Shenandoah, where steep roads, older homes, and the ridges around the Mahanoy Valley make a compact hillside community. The place grew with coal-era settlement and remains distinct from the borough of Shenandoah, even though the two share schools and local services. Coal-era streets climb toward ridges where old spoil lands meet newer wind towers.

Shenandoah Valley School District serves the CDP. The Heights Fire Company No. 1 has been part of the community since 1925, and the former West Mahanoy School once served children from Shenandoah Heights and surrounding villages before closing in 1958. Today, a wind farm on Locust Ridge and a waste-coal power plant add newer energy layers to the old mining landscape.
