Shiocton, WI

Shiocton is a Wolf River village surrounded by the Town of Bovina, and water sets the tone. The Shioc River runs through the village into the Wolf, while the Menominee name Māēnomehsāyak refers to wild rice along the banks. The older English name, Jordan's Landing, points to the settlement's early river-landing days. April brings the walleye spring run and later sturgeon spawning, so fishermen and observers become part of the seasonal calendar.

Three village parks and the Newton Blackmour State Trail keep recreation close to the center. The trail follows a former rail corridor for about two dozen miles between Seymour and New London, with routes toward Black Creek and the wider Outagamie County network.
