Shiremanstown, PA

Shiremanstown is a Cumberland County borough six miles west of Harrisburg, tucked between Hampden and Lower Allen townships. The 2020 census counted 1,634 residents. The borough took its name from Daniel Shireman, an 18th-century German immigrant who bought the Spring Forge and helped shape the settlement's early iron-working economy. It incorporated in 1874, and older houses, churches, and the borough hall still sit close to the Main Street grid. The forge is gone, but its name remains in the local story. Today the borough's scale is small, but the surrounding Cumberland Valley keeps Harrisburg, Carlisle, and the larger road network close at hand.

Historic properties include the Shiremanstown Borough Hall, First Church of God, and older farm and mill buildings tied to the neighboring townships. Park Lane, Main Street, and the roads toward Gettysburg Pike carry most local routines. Shiremanstown's local scoop is an old forge settlement that grew into a compact borough in the Harrisburg orbit, with its name and street plan still pointing back to Daniel Shireman.
