Shoreham, NY

Shoreham is a Suffolk County village on Long Island's North Shore, tucked along Long Island Sound about 70 miles east of New York City. The 2020 census counted 561 residents. Before Shoreham, the place was Woodville Landing, then Wardenclyffe after developer James Warden brought rail service and built a summer colony. That name is the giveaway: Nikola Tesla built his laboratory and began the Wardenclyffe Tower here in 1901. Tesla's brick laboratory still shapes the village's identity through the Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe, while the surrounding streets remain wooded, hilly, and close to the Sound.

The village incorporated in 1913, and the old rail-and-resort story sits alongside today's homes, roads, and energy infrastructure.
