Shorewood, WI

Shorewood is a compact Milwaukee County village just north of the city of Milwaukee, set between Lake Michigan and the Milwaukee River. Its earliest development grew around sawmills on the river's east bank, and rail lines later helped connect the area to the city. Today Shorewood is dense, compact, and residential, with older homes, schools, local shops, and easy access to both the lakefront and Milwaukee's East Side. It feels urban-adjacent but distinct, with a village scale wrapped tightly into the metro.
