About Shueyville
Shueyville is a Johnson County city with 731 residents in the 2020 census, part of the Iowa City metro but still a small place on the north edge of the county. Jacob Shuey founded the town in 1855, and the city’s map remains tied to the roads connecting Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, and the smaller communities around it. The scale is still compact: residential streets, a community center, and open country begin almost immediately beyond the city limits. The Shueyville Community Center holds city meetings and provides rooms, a gym, and a kitchen for local groups and private events.
College Community School District includes part of Shueyville, tying the city to the Cedar Rapids side of the regional map. Shuey’s donation of land for Western College adds an education thread to the city’s early story. That split is part of the local map. It’s a small city with one foot in the Iowa City orbit and the other in the rural roads north of town.
