Siesta Shores, TX

Siesta Shores is a Zapata County census-designated place on the edge of Falcon International Reservoir, with 1,450 residents in the 2020 census. The community belongs to Zapata County Independent School District and sits in a border-county landscape of water, ranch roads, and dry South Texas ground. Falcon State Park and the reservoir supply the larger recreational setting, while Siesta Shores grew as one of the county's newer communities. Earlier settlements in the county were moved or erased after the 1954 flood and the Falcon Dam project.

The Siesta Shores Water Control and Improvement District was created by Zapata County in 1991 and validated by the Texas Legislature in 1993. Five elected directors oversee the district, which provides water infrastructure for the community. That arrangement gives Siesta Shores a locally governed utility district even though it has no municipal government of its own. The place is Texas lake country built around water supply, school boundaries, and the long afterlife of reservoir construction.
