Silo, OK

Silo is a Bryan County town where the 2020 census counted 384 residents. Its nineteenth-century location sat on a stage route through the Choctaw Nation toward Texas, and travelers stopped at nearby Nail's Crossing before continuing through the area. Silo's post office opened in 1893; early businesses included grocery and drug stores, a barbershop, restaurant, blacksmith, harness shop, and hotel. The town's 1907 statehood count had fallen to 180, and the community was down to 43 residents in 1980 before later growth.

A consolidated school eventually brought Silo, Cobb, and Mead students together, and Silo Public Schools keeps that educational thread in town, including Silo High School. The school also gives the town an annual rhythm that reaches beyond the short business district and into nearby country. The settlement sits at County Roads E2050 and N3675, about three miles north of U.S. 70. Silo still feels like a crossroads community: small, rural, and organized around the school and the roads that connect Bryan County.
