About Silver Cliff

Silver Cliff is a Custer County statutory town in the Wet Mountain Valley, born from the 1878 discovery of horn silver. The town incorporated in 1879, and the Silver Cliff Town Hall and Fire House from that same year now holds the town museum. The mining boom made Silver Cliff one of Colorado's largest towns in the 1880 census before the mines, mills, and nearby rail line faded. The cemetery's reported blue lights add a strange local footnote. Silver Cliff is southern Colorado with a silver boom, a museum, and a story that refuses to stay ordinary.
