Silver Firs, WA

Silver Firs is a Census-designated, unincorporated community in Snohomish County just northeast of Mill Creek. Its recognizable center is residential: subdivisions spread along Silver Firs Drive, Puget Park Drive, and connecting county roads, without a city hall or traditional downtown. County government handles the public roads, land-use framework, and regional parks, while homeowner associations maintain another layer close to the houses. Silver Firs I lists neighborhood parks, sport courts, tot lots, and walking trails; Silver Firs II maintains fields, courts, play areas, and trails across its common land. That division of responsibility is a practical part of buying into the area, since association property and county facilities serve different sections of the community.

Schools provide some of the most visible shared spaces. Silver Firs Elementary opened in 1988 as the area was developing rapidly, and its rooms continue to host YMCA care, youth groups, and other community uses outside the school day. Gateway Middle School opened on Silver Firs Drive in 1994; much of the original habitat remains around its buildings, and its commons, gyms, and fields are scheduled for community organizations. Nearby Willis D. Tucker Community Park adds a countywide gathering place at the neighborhood’s eastern side. The forested park brings together trails, athletic fields, a splash pad, an off-leash area, an amphitheater, and an activity center used for classes and rentals.

Most trips beyond those local spaces follow a few suburban arterials toward Mill Creek, south Everett, and Interstate 5. Community Transit gives residents alternatives on the same corridors. As of 2026, Route 166 runs from Silver Firs through Mill Creek and Lynnwood to Edmonds Station, while peak-period Route 901 links Silver Firs with Lynnwood City Center Station and its Link light-rail connections. Silver Firs has no single civic square; its recurring gathering places are Tucker Park’s amphitheater and splash pad, school gyms and commons, and the association trails threaded through the subdivisions.
