Silverdale, WA

Silverdale functions as a regional center without being a city. Kitsap County's 2024 comprehensive plan describes this unincorporated community at the north end of Dyes Inlet as a mix of regional commerce, medical and service uses, historic Old Town, and mostly suburban housing outside the core. The county is preparing a more detailed center plan because Silverdale's regional designation affects future transportation and infrastructure funding. That arrangement puts county plans and special districts, rather than a municipal government, in charge of many public spaces and capital projects. The 2020 census counted 20,733 residents across 12.63 square miles. For 2020–2024, Census estimates also counted 2,966 veterans and placed 20.9 percent of residents at age 65 or older. Old Town's waterfront provides a smaller-scale counterpoint to the commercial center. The two-acre Silverdale Waterfront Park has saltwater beach access, a playground, gazebo, picnic shelter, and a trail beside Clear Creek.

Next door, the Port of Silverdale operates a boat ramp and transient docks with about 1,300 linear feet of berthing; the pier offers water hookups and a pump-out station, though the port cautions that it is exposed during high winds. Farther up Clear Creek, a 15-acre county wetland property combines habitat with public trails. Kitsap Transit Route 265 circulates between the Silverdale Transit Center and central shopping and service areas, while Route 217 continues to the Bremerton Transportation Center and Olympic College. The Silverdale branch of Kitsap Regional Library opened in 2022 in a renovated former high-school cafeteria. Its 13,772 square feet include seven meeting and study rooms, dedicated children's and teen areas, public computers, and direct access to campus walking trails and sports fields.
