About Silverhill
Silverhill is a Baldwin County town founded in the 1890s as a Swedish settlement organized through the Chicago-based Svea Land Company. Oscar Johnson helped establish the colony, and Scandinavian and Czech families came to farm the surrounding Gulf Coast country. Alabama 104 runs through the town between Robertsdale and Fairhope. The old People’s Supply Store, built in 1902, now houses a bank, while the first schoolhouse became the town library. Silverhill is southern Alabama with an immigrant-settlement story still visible in the buildings along its main road.
