Sister Bay, WI

Sister Bay is a Door County village of 1,148 residents in the 2020 census on the Green Bay shore of the Door Peninsula. Waterfront Park now runs about 1,800 feet from the Mill Road area around the yacht club toward Scandia Road. A 2015 dig there found the remains of a store and blacksmith shop, along with evidence of an older Native American settlement, so the shoreline carries both the village's working past and its present gathering space. The village's most famous local landmark is Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant, where goats graze on the sod roof.

Gibraltar Area Schools serves the community, and the offshore wreck of the schooner Meridian, which sank in 1873, is part of the bay's maritime story. In everyday terms, Sister Bay is organized around a public waterfront, a marina, restaurants, school connections, and the roads that run along Northern Door. The goats are the easy conversation starter; the shoreline is what gives the village its shape.
