Skidmore, TX

Skidmore is a Bee County census-designated place where the 2020 census counted 863 residents. The community grew around the railroad after Frank O. Skidmore donated a townsite, right-of-way, and blocks of land to the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway in 1886. A post office followed in 1887, and the town moved to its present site south of Aransas Creek in 1893. U.S. 181 runs through the community, 11 miles south of Beeville and 19 miles northwest of Sinton.

Skidmore and Tynan share a school district, and the Skidmore-Tynan Bobcats give the two rural communities a common school life. The old rail line and the school district keep Tynan and Skidmore linked on the map. Texas 359 leads southwest toward Interstate 37 and Mathis, while U.S. 181 follows the older north-south route through Bee County. Railroad depots, post offices, schools, and ranch-country roads all appear in Skidmore's story, making it a place whose history is tied to getting people, mail, cattle, and goods across the South Texas plain.
