Skowhegan is the county seat of Somerset County, Maine, situated along the scenic Kennebec River. Originally named by the indigenous Abenaki people as a watching place and home to the National Register-listed Skowhegan Historic District, the community of approximately 6,662 hosts the annual Skowhegan State Fair and is served by School Administrative District 54.
