Sky Valley is a Riverside County census-designated place where the Coachella Valley opens into broad desert, away from a conventional town. Roads and scattered homes run through broad, dry country framed by the valley’s mountain edges, with the sharper rise toward the San Jacinto and Little San Bernardino ranges shaping the horizon. The name sounds airy, but life here is tied to heat, wind, distance, and the hard geometry of the desert.

The nearby Sky Valley Ecological Reserve protects roughly 1,700 acres and links the Joshua Tree National Park area with the Coachella Valley Ecological Reserve, creating a wildlife corridor in a landscape that can look empty from the road. Sky Valley also has a small musical footnote: desert-rock band Kyuss used the name for its 1994 album Welcome to Sky Valley.
