About Slater-Marietta

Slater-Marietta is a Greenville County census-designated place made from two adjoining communities along the North Saluda River. Marietta grew from J. Harvey Cleveland’s land and family home, while Slater took shape around the textile mill built nearby in the 1920s. The two names now share one CDP, but the old split still gives the place its character. Slater-Marietta is upstate South Carolina in a two-name arrangement: mill village, river corridor, and rural Greenville County roads.
