About Sleepy Hollow Lake

Sleepy Hollow Lake is a Greene County census-designated place in the Hudson River Valley, about 28 miles south of Albany and 120 miles north of New York City, with 1,153 residents in the 2020 census. The place is a residential community built around a 324-acre, roughly two-and-a-half-mile man-made lake, inside a planned development of about 2,200 acres. The Taconic Mountains rise to the east and the Catskills to the west, giving the neighborhood a distinctly two-sided mountain view. Most of the shared infrastructure runs through the Sleepy Hollow Lake Association of Property Owners: common roads, parks, beaches, pools, tennis courts, a marina, lodge, and the water and sewer systems.

The lake is also the community's drinking-water reservoir, so the water, recreation, and neighborhood management all meet in one system. Sleepy Hollow Lake spans parts of the Town and Village of Athens and the Town of Coxsackie, which makes the association's role especially visible. It is a lakeside CDP where the property owners association functions as the practical town center.
