Smithville is a city along the Little Platte River in Clay and Platte counties, Missouri, serving as a suburb of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Settled in 1822 by Humphrey 'Yankee' Smith and originally known as Smith's Mill, the community has grown to approximately 10,700 residents. The city is famous for the adjacent Smithville Lake, which offers extensive regional boating and fishing, and features the historic Aker Cemetery within its western borders.
