Smithville is one of the most distinctive pockets of Galloway Township, blending a storybook historic center with quiet, tree-lined residential neighborhoods. At the heart of the community sits Historic Smithville, a pedestrian village on Lake Meone where cobblestone paths connect local boutiques, bakeries, and casual eateries. Route 9 runs straight through the area, linking residents to neighboring towns across Atlantic County and putting Atlantic City about twenty minutes away. Because Smithville is an unincorporated community within Galloway Township, local services, public schools, and municipal administration all run through the township.

The village grew around the historic Smithville Inn, an old stagecoach stop from 1787 that still serves dinner overlooking the water.
