About Snead
Snead is a Blount County town at the crossroads of U.S. 278 and Alabama 75, with the Locust Fork of the Black Warrior River along its northeast side. The settlement got moving in the 1850s, when G. W. White built a water-powered flour and grist mill near the river falls. The town later took the name of John Snead, its first postmaster, and incorporated in 1966. Snead is northeast Alabama in a river-and-highway shape, with the old mill story still doing the heavy lifting.
