About Socorro

Socorro is an El Paso County city along the Rio Grande, southeast of El Paso. It was established in 1680 by Manso and Piro people fleeing the Pueblo Revolt in northern New Mexico, giving it some of the oldest settlement history in the region. The white adobe mission is a registered Texas historic landmark and remains central to the city's identity. Socorro today mixes borderland history, local schools, parks such as Bulldog Championship Park, and the everyday growth of the El Paso metro.
