About Solis
Solis is a census-designated place in western Cameron County, Texas, about ten miles west-southwest of Harlingen and close to the Hidalgo County line. The 2020 census counted 722 residents. The community is part of the Brownsville–Harlingen metropolitan area and has an unusual two-part map: northern and southern sections are separated where La Feria’s city limits follow the Interstate 2 and U.S. 83 corridor.
La Feria Independent School District serves Solis, and South Texas Independent School District operates magnet schools that reach the community. The wider name carries a South Texas ranching history through Juan Jose Solis, whose family connections include the Solis Ranch established on the La Feria grant in 1898. Today the place is mostly residential, with highway access and school ties doing the work that a formal town center would do. Solis is a small Valley community shaped by a divided boundary, a major east–west road, nearby La Feria, and the ranching names that remain in Cameron County’s landscape.
