Sour Lake, TX

Sour Lake is a quiet, friendly town of around 1,800 people tucked into Southeast Texas, about twenty minutes west of Beaumont. It got its quirky name back in the 1800s from the mineral-rich springs that drew visitors from across the region, including Sam Houston himself. While it eventually turned into a wild oil boomtown where Texaco got its start, those rowdy days of dozens of saloons and packed dirt streets have long since settled into a relaxed, tight-knit community.

Today, life in Sour Lake revolves around a peaceful small-town routine with local parks, beloved hometown diners, and well-regarded schools in the Hardin-Jefferson district. Sitting right at the intersection of Highway 105 and Highway 326, it offers an easy commute to Beaumont's jobs and medical centers while letting you come home to open skies, quiet front porches, and neighbors who know your name.
