About South Cle Elum

South Cle Elum sits just across the Yakima River from Cle Elum, offering a quieter, more residential pace in the Cascade foothills. The town originally grew around the Milwaukee Road railway in the early 1900s, and you can still see that history at the restored depot and rail yard park. Today, the old train line is part of the Palouse to Cascades trail, giving residents a great route for walking, biking, and exploring. It is a relaxed, friendly community with direct access to the outdoors.
