South Farmingdale is an unincorporated area of the Town of Oyster Bay, while Farmingdale is one of the town's incorporated villages. The Census-defined community covers 2.19 square miles and counted 14,345 residents in 2020. Its housing profile is overwhelmingly owner-occupied: the 2020-2024 estimates put owner occupancy at 95.2 percent among 4,685 households. The median owner-occupied value was $607,700, monthly costs for owners with a mortgage were $3,443, and median gross rent was $2,408. The estimated mean journey to work was 35.2 minutes, a useful measure of how much travel figures into weekday routines without assuming where or how residents commute. Ellsworth W. Allen Town Park is the community's most substantial shared outdoor facility.
