South Heights, PA

South Heights is a quiet, close-knit borough tucked along the western bank of the Ohio River in Beaver County, right across the water from Ambridge. Originally part of Hopewell Township, the area went through a few identities in its early days, starting as a simple ferry crossing known as Ethel's Landing before adopting the name Shannopin when the railroad arrived. By the time residents officially incorporated South Heights in 1909, the hillside settlement had grown into a steady riverfront community where neighbors knew each other by name.

The town originally attracted workers from nearby rail lines and the bustling American Bridge Company across the river, creating a residential pocket that felt connected to regional industry while maintaining its own peaceful pace.
