South Hutchinson, KS

South Hutchinson is a Reno County city of 2,521 residents in the 2020 census, a southern suburb of Hutchinson where K-61, U.S. 50, K-96, and K-14 meet the regional map. Benjamin Blanchard founded the city in 1887, and its first post office opened that August. Main Street and the five-lane gateway toward Hutchinson give the city a practical spine, with the larger city just beyond. The current civic map is concrete. Lionette Park, Voss Park, and the water splash pad sit alongside a rentable community center, while the city maintains its streets, parks, water system, and wastewater plant.

The city keeps an events calendar, and Main Street still carries commercial space; Nickerson–South Hutchinson USD 309 serves local students. The city also keeps a weekday brush burn pile for tree limbs and brush, with a second-Saturday opening each month.
