About South Lebanon
South Lebanon is an unincorporated Linn County census-designated place pressed against the south side of Lebanon. The 2020 census counted 1,228 residents. U.S. 20 runs along the northeast edge, carrying traffic into Lebanon and southeast toward Sweet Home. The place has the unusual feel of being a named community right beside a city: Lebanon supplies the civic and commercial center, while South Lebanon is the lower, more spread-out side of the same valley. The road-and-school connection does most of the local work. Lebanon Community School District serves the surrounding area, and the larger city brings the high school, health-professions campus, shopping, and city services just across the boundary.
South Lebanon's land area has shifted as Lebanon expanded southward, so the CDP is best understood as a moving edge on the city's rural side. That boundary makes everyday errands feel city-close while the CDP still reads as its own place. South Lebanon's local scoop is a place that lives in Lebanon's shadow while still keeping its own line on the map.
