South Rosemary, NC

South Rosemary is a Halifax County CDP pressed against the eastern edge of Roanoke Rapids. U.S. 158 is the main road through the community, so the local map is more corridor than courthouse square: homes and small businesses along the highway, with Roanoke Rapids immediately to the east and Henderson 45 miles west. The Community Drive-In gives the place a familiar roadside marker, while the 2020 count put South Rosemary at 2,753 residents. It is easy to file the place under the larger Roanoke Rapids area, but South Rosemary has its own census boundary and its own stretch of Route 158. Northern Halifax County is the scoop.
