South Seaville, NJ

South Seaville is an unincorporated community near the center of Dennis Township in Cape May County, about four miles northwest of Sea Isle City. The place grew with the railroad, serving as a railhead for wood headed to iron foundries and glass furnaces across New Jersey. That freight past gives the crossroads a clearer shape than the population number alone: South Seaville began as a supply and mail point inside a rural township.

The post office opened in 1867 with Remington Corson as its first postmaster, and for generations mail passed through homes and stores before settling into dedicated quarters. Dennis Township’s wider landscape includes farms and Belleplain State Forest, while public schools divide between Dennis Township schools and Middle Township High School. Today South Seaville is a small postal and residential node with shore communities close by and township services behind it. Its local story is carried by a post office, an old rail connection, and the road network between inland Cape May County and the coast.
