South Wenatchee, WA

South Wenatchee is an unincorporated Chelan County community on the southern side of the Wenatchee urban area, with the Columbia River to the northeast. The 2020 census counted 1,522 residents. It belongs to the Wenatchee–East Wenatchee metropolitan area, but the local map is more immediate: the city borders the northwest edge, the river sits beyond the neighborhood, and the valley opens toward orchards, irrigation, and the Cascade foothills. South Wenatchee's story is the city edge—homes and roads close to Wenatchee, a river on the horizon, and the agricultural valley beyond.

The larger Wenatchee story began when the Great Northern Railway chose a depot about a mile south of the early settlement in 1892, helping create the town that became Wenatchee. The valley's economy then grew around irrigation and tree fruit, with the Columbia and Wenatchee rivers setting the broad geography. South Wenatchee sits inside that history, close to the county seat's jobs, schools, and services while retaining the unincorporated character that distinguishes it from Wenatchee proper. It is a compact piece of a much bigger river-and-orchard map.
