About South Whitley
South Whitley is a Whitley County town with a name that came after the first one. Joseph Parrett laid out Springfield along the Eel River in 1837, but the post office was called Whitley and then South Whitley once the county seat claimed the Whitley name. That post office is still part of the town's story. Today South Whitley has the brick-and-tree-lined look of an old Indiana town, with Whitko schools and a community library filling out the local map.
