Southport, IN

Southport offers a distinct small-town feel tucked right into Indianapolis’ south side, about eight miles from downtown. Even though it sits inside Marion County, Southport remains an independent city with its own mayor, council, and dedicated police department. That setup gives the community a strong sense of local pride and responsive services. Tree-lined residential streets wind through quiet neighborhoods, Little Buck Creek flows along the north side, and families have Southport Elementary right in town.

Community life often centers around Southport Park on Derbyshire Road, which features playgrounds, ball fields, and picnic shelters along the creek. The city hosts regular get-togethers throughout the year, including outdoor movie nights, classic car shows, holiday gatherings, and a seasonal farmers market. It is a comfortable, tight-knit pocket on the south side with an easy commute into the heart of Indianapolis.
