About Sparta

Sparta is a Christian County city of 1,876 residents in the 2020 census, six miles east of Ozark at the meeting of Missouri Routes 14 and 125. It sits on the south edge of the Springfield Plateau, in the corridor between Springfield and Branson. A post office has operated here since 1876, and the name is a transfer from Sparta, Tennessee. The road junction gives the city a practical role in the county: Sparta is close enough to Springfield for regional connections, yet its own center remains organized around the school, local businesses, and Route 14.

Sparta R-III serves the area from prekindergarten through high school, with the school campus supplying much of the city's daily gathering rhythm. Christian County's Persimmon Days in November is an annual local event, and the county's wider calendar includes festivals in the neighboring towns. Ozark's services and Springfield's metro are west, while the Christian County hills, creeks, and trails spread around town. Sparta's local character comes from that junction: a school-centered city on the Ozark Plateau, close to a larger metro but still facing its own county roads and seasonal traditions.
