Spartanburg, IN

Spartanburg is a census-designated place in Greensfork Township, Randolph County, Indiana. The community began as Newberg in 1832, and an 1842 post office established the Spartanburg name; the office remained open until 1907. Randolph County's Quaker settlement history includes Union Literary Institute, founded in 1846 by a biracial board. The school offered higher education to students of all races and sexes, and students worked four hours daily for room and board.
