Spearfish, SD

Spearfish is a Black Hills city in western South Dakota and the largest community in Lawrence County. It sits near the mouth of Spearfish Canyon, which gives the town immediate access to some of the region's best-known scenery. Black Hills State University is a major presence, adding students, sports, and cultural life to what might otherwise feel like a small mountain-edge city. Spearfish has Gold Rush-era history, outdoor recreation, and a practical role as a service center for the northern Black Hills.
